Organic Cities: A New Era of Sustainable Urban Living

Luca Curci Architects Unveil Futuristic, Eco-friendly Cityscape

Luca Curci architects studio presents "Organic Cities," an innovative, sustainable urban design that redefines the skyline of the United Arab Emirates. This award-winning project merges residential, business, and social elements, creating a harmonious, green cityscape.

Derived from a conceptual point, the project symbolizes the Arab world's energy and power. The design is inspired by the moon, a symbol of prestige and beauty, intended to be built in various parts of the world. The aggregation of these "moons" aims to create a global attraction, much like the allure of the Egyptian pyramids.

Organic Cities is a unique blend of form and function, with organic buildings merging with the new megalopolis. The design incorporates residential elements with business divisions, shopping areas with wellness zones, and cultural places with social life. The goal is to create a common space where people can live, meet, learn, work, socialize, and foster new cultures.

The project is designed to host over 150,000 inhabitants, with 50% of the lot area dedicated to green spaces and connections. It includes more than 800,000 square meters for hotels, spas, wellness areas, 6.3 million square meters for shopping malls, galleries, museums, and 4.5 million square meters for offices and other social services.

The design is divided into two groups: organic buildings on land and "moons" on the sea, all interconnected with roads, parks, and running streets. The structures near the sea are designed to thrive in desert conditions, representing the future and evolution of contemporary metropolises. These structures aim to foster human connections, offering thousands of common places for social interaction.

The project focuses on sustainability, with buildings designed as a 'double-skin' allowing air circulation. The facade is covered with a thin photovoltaic film that harvests energy for residences and other services. The organic shape of the buildings ensures optimal sun exposure throughout the day, maximizing solar energy utilization.

The Organic Cities project was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award recognizes marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
